What a sunny Wednesday we had!

What a lovely day it was yesterday! We made use of the lovely sunny weather and did all our activities and jobs outside in the sun!

Lots of drawing, colouring and reading

This is our fab new adventure playground!

We loved playing in the new construction site we have outside; digging, scraping, building, climbing, sharing, turning and twisting.

Year two gardening club week two

This week we did the prickly job of getting rid of all the nettles in the playground.

We dug out the grass and weeds of another one of the troughs. We put bark and twigs down to encourage bugs into our new nature area.

We have also used twigs to wrap and weave around and make a hanging ornament to attract new birds.

The end of a super week in Reception!

We have been working hard all week in reception. Developing our team building and negotiating skills.

We have been taking every opportunity to practise our writing skills, even outside during PE!

Jack has produced an amazing picture of the chicks on his computer at home. He named one of the chicks "King".

Year Two Gardening Club

On Tuesday we started the new Gardening Club. Seven year two children have started to dig over the boxes on the pencil playground and have planted some beautiful sweet peas in one of them. We did lots of weeding, digging, raking and planting. We found lots of bugs; worms,beetles and centipedes.

Continuing our change and growth project this week

This week we are continuing our work on change and growth, and looking at the chicks. We have been making pop up chicks and learning the "nine little eggs in an incubator" song, for our creative development.

We have been doing some comparing work, looking at mathematical words like; taller, smaller, wider, higher, lower, larger, shorter, bigger....

Day twelve of the chick diary

We knew the time would come when we had to say goodbye to the chicks, but it still wasn't easy. We were all very sad. We have had an amazing time having the chicks in class for these past two weeks. We have watched them grow from little chicks hatching out of their eggs to bigger chicks flapping around in the broader box.

 It has been a fantastic experience which I believe all the children, staff and parents too have benefitted hugely from. Thank you to all the children and parents for all their comments and involvement! Maybe we'll have to have some more again next year!!

Day eleven of the chick diary

The chicks are doing so well, they're developing so much every day. They have definitely become part of the class, I think everyone will miss them when they have to go :-(

Today we had a hold of the chicks. We sat very still, holding them safely with both hands. Some of the chicks sat still too but some were slightly flapping. 

Day ten of the chick diary

Today the chicks are running about a lot more. They are eating loads of food which means they are pooing a lot (even in their water bowl! yuck!!) They are still sleeping lots; cuddling into each other and resting their heads on the corner of the newspaper.

Zoe says 'some are yellow and some are golden and they're so cute!'

Connie says 'they are cute and they are beautiful. Their wings are feathery and white.'

Abi says 'they are fluffy now and yellow. When they first came out of the egg they were wet and dark brown.'

Noor says 'the chicks are beautiful. I will be cross on Friday when they go back to the farm because I want the chicks to stay here!'

Their necks are getting really long so they can reach things up high and can reach over the side of their food bowl. They are starting to clean themselves and each other with their beaks. 

We have also been making chicks using shapes. We used circles and triangles mainly, but different sizes.

Day nine of the chick diary

Holly says 'the chicks will be adults soon, they will go to the farm and be cockerels and hens'.

Asmaa says 'the chicks have grown over the weekend and they are sleeping in their food. Some of the chicks are yellow, some of the chicks are brown".

Aminah says 'the chicks are cute and yellow and fluffy, some are brown".

Maya says 'the chicks are sparkly and shiny".

Today we saw the chicks stretch their wings out and stretch their legs out. They are still sleeping lots, and like snuggling each other. Sometimes they crawl over each other and fly into each other.

We got to hold the chicks today. We sat in a circle and either held or stroked them. Some of them sat still and some them flapped their wings.

Day eight of the chick diary

The chicks are doing well, eating, drinking, sleeping and playing lots. Their wings are starting to form and they are getting even more feathers.

They love snuggling up to each other when they sleep and have started to flap around the broader box, on to the food bowl and even on to the top of the water tray!

Their feathers have stayed the same colours, we wondered whether they'd all turn yellow, but we still have three yellow ones and six golden ones.

They have loved their break with baby Thomas and Inca the dog, but they are very much looking forward to seeing all the children tomorrow back in school :-)

Day seven of the chick diary

The chicks have having a cracking holiday and an egg-cellent time :-) They are getting bigger every day and becoming stronger on their feet; running and flapping around the brooder box.

They have started to stretch their necks out when they are being inquisitive, usually when someone comes close to the box. 

They have definitely found their voices; chirping very loudly. When one starts the others join in, which baby Thomas finds very funny :-)

Day six of the chick diary

Saturday, day six. The chicks have settled into their temporary home for the bank holiday weekend, at Mrs Edwards' house. They are entertaining baby Thomas well! They are growing bigger and fluffier by the minute.

They are still sleeping lots and have even been sleeping in their food bowl!!
