Friday Post 4 and 5: Little Red Riding Hood

We have been focusing on this story as it linked well to work covered all about our senses. We have continued to focus on the story to develop our storytelling skills and we have been using props to support our retelling and performing abilities. We have enjoyed a music session focusing on using our voices to represent the main characters in the story ( a high pitched singing voice for Red Riding Hood and a low, chanting voice for the Wolf) and have learnt the song "Granny, what big eyes you've got..." (RRH) and "All the better to see you with..." (Wolf). Your child should be able to song some of it for you...?

Some of us have performed the story to the rest of the class already. The rest of us will be the audience members in our pretend theatre. We will be working in groups to act out the story over the next couple of Fridays.

Also, we will be creating puppets and creating a story scene individually to help us to retell the story. We will also be playing the game What's the time Mr Wolf? This will help us with counting, numeral recognition, concept of time, writing numerals and recording using tallying.

Watch this space!

Lots of time and effort has been taken when rehearsing and acting out the story. Thank you Miss L for your input. The performances so far have been fantastic!

We have taken turns to take on different roles too: Red Riding Hood, The wolf, the woodcutter, Grandma and the mother. This was really good fun and has helped us to understand what happens in the story and when. We have also been able to recall what happened at key parts in the structure of the story.

Here we are busy cutting and sticking whilst creating our own stories based on Red Riding Hood.

Some excellent focusing and attention here as well as creative thinking. Careful cutting too! I am looking forward to hearing even more about your alternative stories!

And making cakes to take to Grandma's house...

Great teamwork boys. You worked so hard here!

Lots of used our cutting skills to create a mask whilst talking about parts of the story. Thank you for your help Mrs D.

Aargh! Who is this?
Where have Reception friends gone?

Here we are performing the song!

Enjoying an alternative version of the story with lots and lots of super duper rhyming!

What a busy Friday!

Well done everyone!
