Final week in reception

Our last week of the Autumn term has been busy. We have been finishing off our Christmas gifts for home, as well as continuing to develop our maths and literacy skills. We have been exploring all areas of the classroom and have produced some amazing results. Here are a few photos:

Our first week back starts on Tuesday 5th January. It will be our themed week, Mersey Vale's got Talent. Children need to have a think about a talent they are particularly proud of; karate, writing, dancing, singing, football, reading, music, telling jokes, doing magic.... We will be holding auditions in class time, so you need to feel confident performing in front of class and then the two best performances will be chosen to showcase their talents in front of the whole school in assembly on the Friday. Good luck!!

Finally I'd like to wish all our friends who celebrate Christmas a very Merry time, and to everyone have a lovely break, be safe and we'll see you in the New Year. Mrs Edwards :-)

Challenge Fridays

Every Friday, we take part in different challenges...

Check out how busy we have been so far...!

Well done everyone!

Miss Bunting:-)

Creating a story map to represent the story

Combining groups of objects, adding and finding the total

Recording our findings too

Retelling a familiar story using descriptive language

Acting out the story in groups

Using props creatively and for a purpose, e.g. white sheet for snow

Even more number work!

Working as a team - persevering when challenge arises

Talking about the story and using props to act it out

Engaging in open ended activity and using senses to explore and experiment. This really helps us to develop fine and gross motor skills (linked to writing, especially).

Diwali - using fine motor skills to create a rangoli pattern

Exploring measures and handling tools with increasing control

Using shapes for tasks - creating diwas

Consolidating counting skills and developing ability to form numerals correctly

Adding sets of objects and working out the total

Phonics and handwriting challenge - roll, say, write and I spy...

Celebrating maths week with a parents workshop

On Thursday morning we celebrated our maths week by inviting parents to a stay and play maths workshop. We had an amazing turn out, thank you so much to all some parents who came to practise some maths skills with their child. Please let us know what you thought of the session.

It was great to see children and parents to explore maths through games, ICT, painting, sand, shapes, books and other resources. We worked on shapes, space, numbers, measures, counting... Here are a few of our photos....more are on our class page on the school website...

We're going on a bear hunt...

On Fridays in Reception Class, we have been enjoying sharing this story and have taken part in different activities within many aspects of learning. Well done! Miss B:-)

Take a look...

Using props to help develop our storytelling skills

Using language from the story

We are using lots of language from the story and are very excited about going to the theatre.

So far, we have enjoyed learning some actions, movements and signing to perform the story as a group. We have all taken part very well!

"We're going on a bear hunt..."

"We're not scared!"

"Oh no!"

"We've got to go through it!

"A cave!"

"Tiptoe"

It has been fun going on our very own bear hunts in our outdoor area too and using props to help to relive the experience through drama. We have taken photos and videos of our efforts, which we will be sharing together and appraising each others' efforts (peer assessment).

We have also created our very own story maps to represent the story. We have used our early writing skills to label our maps.

We shared our efforts with the class!

Excellent effort!

Miss B:-)

Street Feet and measuring

This week we have been using the construction to look at measuring. We have made really tall towers, tall enough to reach the ceiling.
We have been using the computers to practise our literacy and number skills.
We have also had the opportunity to use the Street Feet resources. We have been working outside to learn about being safe on the roads. What should we go, how do we cross the roads, what we should do at traffic lights and what should we look out for....
